The Air Max ‘97 has always been a popular shoe in the UK, be it on the foot of the classic British chav or the esteemed sneaker head, it’s fair to say that it found it’s place here on our shores. So, it makes me very happy to see it getting a VT treatment that does it justice.With the current popularity of Nike’s Vac-Tech, almost replacing it’s ‘vintage’ effect of the last couple of years, it’s becoming a dangerous game as more and more silhouettes get vacuumed. However, when I first saw these ‘97 VT’s I fell in love. I’m a huge fan of the classic all-silver rendition of the ‘97, a shoe that somehow holds and air of attitude and class at the same time, but these VT’s display the Japanese garden inspired silhouette in a whole new way and are a great example of how Vac-Tech can be used to show a shoe in a new light.The one-piece upper only adds to the smooth, flowing nature of the original design, and the laser perforations pop so well against the Midnight Fog suede. A crisp white sole unit finishes off the shoe with classic class, allowing the infamous ‘97 air bubble to shine through. This shoe also features Nike grind material on the outsole, made from recycled athletic shoes and manufacturing scraps, making this shoe that bit closer to environmental (a great way to justify the purchase to yourself).
